The Laureate na nÓg is a person who is given the responsbility to encourage young people to get reading and to promote children’s books both in Ireland and around the world. The position was created back in 2010 and there have been two laureates since.
Students from Rutland National School were the first members of the public to find out who the new laureate is. In fact they even got the chance to hear his stories and ask him a few questions.
Eoin Colfer, Irish author of books such as the Artemis Fowl series and The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World, was today announced as the new Laureate na nÓg.
He’s taking over from children’s Illustrator Niamh Sharkey who has held the postition for the last two years.
