The Prince also met Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams for the first time, who said it was a step forward in the reconciliation arising from the peace process.

The prince is on his way to the village of Mullaghmore where his great uncle, Lord Mountbatten, was killed in an IRA bomb attack on a fishing boat in 1979. Three others died in the explosion.
