Have you ever been dragged to a garden centre by your mam and dad? A bit dull, aren’t they? Not anymore!
Feast your eyes on Bloom 2015, a festival in the heart of Dublin’s Phoenix Park, which will change the way you feel about shrubs, hedges, flowers, potplants and an awful lot more.
More than one hundred thousand people are expected to attend over the Bank Holiday weekend and the organisers are hoping for good weather.
This morning President Michael D. Higgins opened the festival which runs through the bank holiday weekend. Now in it’s 9th year Bloom features 25 show gardens, 50 flower displays, and 125 Irish food producers. Last year, 80,000 plants were sold.
Garden designers from across the country are vying for the top prize from the judges.
One garden that caught our eye is the GOAL garden, built to resemble a slum in the developing world – it won a gold medal from the judges.
Also winners today were 2nd class from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Drimnagh, who were announced as winners of this year’s National GIY Sow and Grow competition.
Bloom runs until next Monday, so if you’re looking for something to do, thistle do nicely!
