RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival

It’s curtains up at the Dean Crowe Theatre in Athlone, as the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival kicks off.
Up and coming playwrights were honoured at this special awards ceremony, as the winners of the 2017 Schools Playwright Competition were announced.
The winning play, written by John Croghan from Glenamaddy Community School in County Galway, was performed on stage at the ceremony, by professional actors.
The Schools Playwright Competition is now in its 4th year and is open to transition year students. This year entrants were asked to write a one act play, based on the theme ‘Identity’.
Hundreds of entries were submitted this year, and the process of picking the winners, was far from easy. For a full list of events taking place as part of the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival, check out dramafestival.ie
