What do you think about school uniforms? Answers!

Thank you all for your answers to our ‘Question of the Week’ – What do you think about school uniforms? You’ll find all answers that we received below:

Amelia, 4th Class, Scoil Cailíní, Donabate

I think that uniforms are great and they help prevent bullying. You are less likely to be teased about the style or cost of your clothes.

Mr. Fahy’s 5th Class, St. Nessan’s, Limerick

I think uniforms are a bad idea as they force us to be the same. We’re all unique and we like different colours and different things. It’s also an extra cost for my parents.

Ms. O’Driscoll’s 1st Class, Sacred Heart Junior School, Tallaght, Dublin

Wearing our uniforms means we don’t have to think about what we wear in the morning. Everyone has the same colours which helps our teacher identify us easily on a school trip.

Ms. Gill’s 2nd Class, Scoil Bhríde, Offaly

Uniforms avoid jokes being made about different clothes. On the other hand, some uniforms are not very comfortable.  Overall, we’d rather not have a school uniform, although our teacher has a different opinion.

3rd Class, Alexandra College Junior School, Milltown, Dublin

Uniforms are both good and bad. They stop bullying and it’s easier to plan your day. Although, it might be easy to lose your jumper or coat and it’s hard to keep a uniform clean for the entire week.

Abbie & Connie, Newbridge Educate Together, Kildare

In our school we don’t have a school uniform and we really like that, but we think that there are good points for both.

Callum Murray Byrne. 3rd class. Scoil Áine Naofa

I think it is a good idea to wear a uniform in school as it makes all children equally the same. If we were to wear normal clothes it would mean having to pick out different clothes every night and there would be a lot of competition between kids over what brand of clothes they are wearing. I think we look very smart in our uniforms.

Finn Coghlan. 3rd class. Scoil Áine Naofa

I like wearing a school uniform. It makes me look smart ant tidy. When we are on school tours it is easy to tell what school we are from.

Luke Cahill, Navan, Co. Meath

I think wearing school uniforms is a good thing because everyone is equal and no-one is better or cooler than anyone else.

4th class, Glasheen GNS

We think that school uniforms are a great idea. First of all, it helps stop bullying because everyone wears the same clothes so its equal and nobody can tease you about your clothes.

The uniforms represent your school. When you are wearing your uniform it makes you proud of your school.

Zara

I don’t like the uniform but it is good for school tours and other activities so if we get lost we will be able to recognise or school tracksuit.

Ms. Gill’s 2nd Class, Scoil Bhríde, Edenderry, Co. Offaly

We think that school uniforms are a good idea because they:

  • Show that everybody goes to the same school, all are included and are a part of the school.
  • Show people what school you go to when outside of school.
  • Avoid jokes being made about different clothes.
  • You know what you have to wear and don’t have to pick something different every day.
  • On days out it is easy to identify your school or class.

On the other hand if we didn’t hava school uniform:

  • You have to wear the same thing every day.
  • You could pick what you wanted to wear every day.
  • If you lose a part of your uniform, you have to buy a new one.
  • Some uniforms are not very comfortable.

Overall the majority of our class would rather not have a school uniform – although our teacher as a different opinion.

Mr. Fahy’s, 5th Class St. Nessan’s Limerick

I think school uniform are a good idea as they give us a sense of identity. When on school tours or when we’re on a school trip, we can be seen very easily by our teachers. If we get lost it’s easy for people to know where we’re from and it also gives us a sense of unity.

Uniforms are a good ideas as without them it would be a difficult task choosing what clothes to wear every morning. Do I wear by tracksuit pants or my jeans? It would reduce bullying as well as other children wouldn’t be making fun of your clothes.

I think uniforms are a bad idea as they force us to be the same. We’re all unique and we like different colours and different things. We shouldn’t have to wear all the same clothes as we’re all very different with different interests and therefore our clothes should show this too. Also, it’s just extra cost for my parents. I have nice clothes at home that I could wear to school. This extra money could be spent on books.

Oisin Matthews

I think school uniforms are ok, Because they are comfortable and everybody looks the same.

Molly Lawlor

I wish our uniform had lots more colour.

Kaitlyn Burke, 3rd class, St Cronans Swords

I don’t like having uniforms. I don’t like having to wear the same clothes every day.  I’d prefer to pick my own clothes each day.

Derec Mooney, Age 9, Scoil Bhride,Kill,Co Kildare

I think we should not have to wear our uniforms because they get all hot and

stuffy and they are hard to move around in.We should be allowed to wear our tracksuit all week long.

Hollymount NS

It looks better with a uniform for pictures .It is a bit annoying changing after school. Gerry

I think school uniforms can be a bit annoying to change especially when I have  school activities. But it helps in the morning it saves a bit of time to pick out clothes.

By Kaylee o’Leary

The good thing about uniformsis  it saves time picking out clothes in the morning. And also everyone then is equal when they are wearing uniforms. The bad thing then is when you come in from school and you have to change.Sarah Moynihan.

I think school uniforms are good, for people to know what school you go to.but  think it can be boring to wear the same thing over and over everyday.. Also it can be annoying to change after school especially when you have after school activites. Sarah

The bad thing it is awkward when you’re at your friends house but the good thing is it saves time picking out clothes in the morning. Tiarna Dineen.

1st and 2nd class Rathmore NS, Athboy

We have a navy uniform and we would prefer if it was a brighter colour. We would like a cosy, fluffy uniform! We would like to be able to wear our school tracksuit all the time, not just for PE. We would like to have shiny, golden tracksuits!

Some people in our class would like to be able to wear their own clothes to school every day.

5th class, Gorey Educate Together

We don’t have to wear uniforms in our school, most of us prefer this but some would like to have a uniform so they don’t have to decide what to wear everyday!

Ms. O’Driscoll’s 1st Class in Sacred Heart Junior School, Killinarden, Tallaght
We wanted to let you know that we love our school uniforms. We love them because they are cosy and keep us warm in the colder months.

We also love our school tracksuit because that means we have P.E. and can be much more active.

Wearing our uniforms means we don’t have to think about what we need to wear in the morning.

Everyone has the same colours which helps our teacher identify us easily on a school trip.

St. Joseph’s Fairview

I don’t like  school uniform they are really uncomfortable even my mam agrees there too expensive and I need a new one every year and it saves the washing each night by not having a uniform. Tristin

I do not like uniforms, Why, well? They are uncomfortable. They are pointless. They have sleeves. They are hard to put on in the morning. They are blue and believe me I do not like blue.  I just think there are better colours. Like orange, red, purple, brown, ETC. Well, that’s all, but there are most likely more reasons uniforms should be optional, perhaps good reasons for why they should not be optional? Darren

School  Uniforms in my  opinion are dumb and pointless. Why should you buy the same stuff every year when you can get your other clothes on. The only good thing about Uniforms is that kids won’t judge you based on clothing. Sometimes uniforms can feel very uncomfortable such as being itchy and tight. Michael

Ruby Sweeney O’Brien. Age 9

I like having a uniform because its easier to get dressed in the morning. My school got a new uniform this year as we are combining our school with the boys school to make a new school, called St Christopher’s on Haddington Road.

Trevor Tomson

I really don’t like school uniforms. With uniforms, you have to wear the same thing every day and that gets sort of dull.

Amelia, 4th class, Scoil Phádraic Cailíní Donabate

I think that uniforms are great and they help prevent bullying. You are less likely to be teased about the  style or cost of your clothes if you wear a uniform. I really like watching news2day so keep up the good work.

Emma Kearns, 4th Class, St.Brigids G.N.S Killester D.5

I think school uniforms are good because you don’t need to worry about what we wear to school every day. Plus it’s so much fun when we get a dress down day, on which we can raise money for a good cause.

Aaliyah Jennings

I think that educate togethers uniform is amazing because well we don’t have one so it lets kids express themselves and dress how they like.

Andrew Harford, St.Ultans national school, Bohermeen, Co.Meath

I think that school uniforms are good it one sense that people can’t be slagged for not having the trendiest clothes. So it can prevent bullying. But thinking about it anyone who where’s a uniform to school currently knows that sometimes it can be a bit uncomfortable wearing them. And that it feels so good when the the bell rings, you go home and get changed into your comfortable clothes.

Emmet Cassidy

I love school uniforms because you don’t have to pick out what to wear every day and when you wear it, you represent your school. But, what I don’t like is when people wear their tracksuit when it’s not a PE day!
